January 15th: Sarah Streng from IKUS Life Enrichment Services
Sarah Streng is an Occupation Therapist and the Camp Director for Indian Trails Camp/IKUS Life Enrichment Services. During our meeting today we learned that occupation therapist can be school based. They support academic achievements and social participation by promoting occupation within all school routines, including recess, classroom, and cafeteria time. In elementary school’s occupation therapist work with organization, social skills, written work, activities of daily living, management of physical activities and sensory behaviors. In Jr. High and High School, they work with hygiene, self-advocacy, body awareness, transition planning, and independent living skills. Occupation therapist use tools weighted vest, pencil grips, and fidgets. Occupation Therapists can have partnerships with teachers working on formal evaluation, tracking data, communicate concerns, and attend IEPs. February 12th: Valentines for Grandville Transitions
Happy Valentine's Day! CEC made Valentines for our friends at Grandville Transitions. This program focuses on the development of life skills for young adults. The students participate in a variety of community based lessons. We hope to see you at our next meeting!
